Living Your Dream as an Entrepreneur

So, you want to start your own business and be your own boss. What’s stopping you other than you? It is a huge leap of faith many times, but if you prepare yourself, pray and allow God to lead your planning, you can live your dream as an entrepreneur! It will be awesome! As I am sure you know, God supernaturally gifts you with what you need for the dream.

“A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great” (Proverbs 18:16).

Oh, this is why God is so important in our lives. Everything we need, He has already provided.

But, I want to share with you today a few additional tips to consider as you contemplate the entrepreneurial journey that I have learned along the way.
First of all, being a successful entrepreneur requires more than just being able to come up with a good business idea and being efficient. One needs to have the skill set, character traits and dedication in the right amount for any amount of success!
Are you passionate about what you plan on doing? Diligence and passion are essential keys to successful entrepreneurship, no matter how large or small the business. Passion will be your fuel and diligence will be the vehicle. Stay focused, be patient and no shortcuts!
What motivates you to be your best you? Is it success or, are you able to be motivated by failure? Both are important to any successful business. Yes, I said failure! Failure is only a fail if we don’t learn from it. Many failures are opportunities for success. Find a mentor and ask them about their successes AND failures. You can learn so much when you focus on both. So many people lose hope and give up when a failure arises. Stay motivated and stay connected with others on the same journey. If you have other employees, engage with the team. As you lead it, it is more important that you know your way around your workspace. If members of the team feel demotivated after a loss, gather their spirits and pull harder at the strings of attempt. By doing so, you will not only gather respect, but also be able to build a unified force who can help your business excel.
Always find time and avenues to recharge your creative batteries. Being creative requires a lot of intelligence. You may need to come up with quirky campaigns to market to your audience in order to familiarize them with the service you provide. If possible, have suggestion boxes or forms, surveys, feedback from services provided or any other way to collect data on customer satisfaction. Staying connected with the consumer is always helpful to you as you revise and revamp your business. And don’t forget the power of your brand. By staying connected to your consumers, you are letting them know that your brand is one of support and care. So many businesses don’t have a strong customer service component or focus. Be a brand that sets itself apart and always keep the customer first!
If living your dream means creating your own brand and business, it is so important to remember that no matter how experienced you are in the job, there is no end to learning! You will be learning practically every day, and when you do so, try not to repeat past mistakes. God will allow trials to test your dream-“Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:3).
Take suggestions even from your customers, clients and/or subordinates – it is impossible for one to be fully equipped with all the knowledge and intellect in the world.
As your entrepreneurial dream becomes a reality and a profitable business, be prepared to take on unexpected challenges. This is an important part of staying in business. Challenges not only show your company as a progressive and dynamic unit to customers, but also help you grow very quickly. Challenges show your preparedness to handle situations and how your team can deal with a crisis. Success can breed comfort and that is where a challenge is sure to arise. So never get too comfortable in your success. Always keep your eyes open and look for ways to improve and challenge yourself. The same strategy you began with cannot help your company survive through the years. In order to taste the fruit of success, you need to rethink and reimagine your business goals, plans and focus based on market trends and the economy. Do not be afraid to change strategies.
As you see, an entrepreneur has a number of responsibilities to shoulder. But just stay focused, pray and meditate on what God has planted in you. Remember, David was minding his own business with the sheep out in the field and before he knew it—he was chosen to become the next king of Israel. David was immediately filled with the Spirit of God with great power. Before this significant event, David was oblivious to God’s dream for him. We, too, can be awakened to a greater purpose for our lives when God chooses us. You were given that dream because it is yours to create and provide a well stream of income for you and your family for generations. Build your legacy as you build your dream. As you build your dream, build your faith!
